Chronic insomnia means trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or getting back to sleep on three or more nights a week for at least three months. Distance does not change the treatment. Your clinician still sees the pattern in your diary, builds a plan around your actual mornings and adjusts it with you each week.

Book with GabrielThe first appointment is an evaluation: about 50 minutes on your current nights, the history of the problem, what you have tried and whether anything besides insomnia may be involved. Next you make a two-minute morning sleep diary—a note of when you went to bed, fell asleep, woke and got up. Your clinician uses it to set a sleep window, which is a consistent bedtime and wake time that widens as sleep improves. Weekly sessions usually continue for roughly six to eight weeks, with many people noticing a shift in the first few weeks. Read How CBT-I Works for each step.
