Why partner with us?

How patients benefit from CBT-I

  • A structured sleep treatment

CBT-I targets behaviors and beliefs that interfere with falling asleep or staying asleep.

  • A plan for future sleep problems

The course includes strategies patients can use if insomnia symptoms return.

  • Statewide access

Our CBT-I clinicians hold Pennsylvania licenses and see patients from across the state.

  • Insurance support

The team checks benefits and bills accepted insurance directly.

  • Shared treatment planning

Written patient consent allows the treating clinician to share the sleep plan and progress with your practice.

Referrals appropriate for our service

Consider CBT-I for an adult with:

  • Repeated difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep for at least three months.
  • Insomnia that remains a problem during treatment for anxiety, a mood condition or sleep apnea.
  • A desire to manage insomnia without adding medication or while discussing a taper with their prescriber.

CBT-I for patients who are already in therapy

Specialist insomnia treatment can run alongside an established therapy relationship. Your patient continues their broader care while our clinician focuses on sleep.

The sleep diary helps the clinician recommend and adjust a consistent schedule.

Suspect sleep apnea too?

Patients often have both insomnia and sleep apnea. We provide CBT-I for insomnia, and our clinician arranges any needed referral to partners who treat apnea.

Score your own sleep

Answer all seven questions about the past two weeks. The Insomnia Severity Index adds your answers into a score between 0 and 28. This calculator does not submit a referral or add results to a medical record at Pennsylvania Better Sleep.

For the first three questions, please rate the current (last 2 weeks) severity of your insomnia problem(s):

1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Difficulty staying asleep
3. Problem waking up too early
4. How satisfied/dissatisfied are you with your current sleep pattern?
5. How noticeable to others do you think your sleep problem is in terms of impairing the quality of your life?
6. How worried/distressed are you about your current sleep problem?
7. To what extent do you consider your sleep problem to interfere with your daily functioning (e.g., daytime fatigue, mood, ability to function at work or with daily chores, concentration, memory) currently?

A score is not a diagnosis. Discuss the result and your sleep history with a licensed clinician. A referral to Pennsylvania Better Sleep does not require a particular score.

1

We contact your patient

Pennsylvania intake contacts your patient and helps them prepare for the first appointment, including a benefits check.

2

Treatment begins

A first visit of about 50 minutes covers the sleep history, current medication and past treatments. Weekly appointments typically continue for six to eight weeks. The clinician reviews daily sleep records, adjusts the sleep window and helps the patient prepare for future disruptions.

3

We keep you informed

Written patient consent allows the treating clinician to share the sleep plan and progress with your practice.

Most patients see a Pennsylvania-licensed clinician over video. A limited number of clinicians also provide in-person appointments at our Philadelphia office, subject to availability confirmed at booking. Patients must be physically in Pennsylvania during care.
