Insomnia treatment for Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh patients meet with Pennsylvania-licensed clinicians by video. CBT-I uses weekly visits to improve the timing and habits of sleep without medication. A limited number of clinicians also see patients in person at our Philadelphia office.

Is this the right kind of care?

Chronic insomnia means trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or getting back to sleep on three or more nights a week for at least three months. A steep commute before sunrise, a rotating warehouse schedule, winter mornings that stay dark or an hour spent watching the clock can all keep the pattern going. Treatment starts with your real workdays and weekends, not a schedule copied from someone else.

With sleep apnea, breathing repeatedly pauses at night and loud snoring is common. It is a separate problem, although it can happen alongside insomnia. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.

What happens after you book

The first visit is an evaluation: about 50 minutes on how your nights go now, how long the problem has lasted, what you have tried and whether something besides insomnia may be involved. Next comes a two-minute morning sleep diary. Your clinician uses it to choose a sleep window—a set time to go to bed and get up—and adjusts that window in weekly sessions. The usual course lasts roughly six to eight weeks, and many people feel a shift in the first few weeks. See How CBT-I Works for the full plan.

Appointments across western Pennsylvania

The same appointments reach Erie, Butler, Beaver County, Johnstown, Altoona, State College and every other Pennsylvania community. You must be inside the state during each visit. Pittsburgh has no office; the nearest practice office is at 700 S. 7th Street in Philadelphia, and nearly everyone from western Pennsylvania is seen by video. Pittsburgh questions, answered plainly

Does Pittsburgh insomnia treatment work as well by video?

Yes. You and your clinician review a short sleep diary, set a schedule and adjust it each week. These steps can all be done by video. You need a quiet place for about 50 minutes and a reliable internet connection.

Can I join from Ohio or West Virginia if I live near Pittsburgh?

You must be physically in Pennsylvania during the appointment. A Pennsylvania home, office or other private space is fine. You cannot join from across the state line, even if your mailing address or employer is in Pennsylvania.

I snore and wake up tired. Should I book a sleep study first?

Tell us at the first appointment. A sleep study is an overnight test that can find pauses in breathing. Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.
